From Power to Prison to Peace
Jonathan Aitken, Ex-Cabinet Minister, Ex-MP and Ex-Prisoner will be visiting Highgate Road Chapel to talk about his life in politics, prison and beyond. Jonathan Aitken is a former British Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister. He is an author, commentator and campaigner for Prison Reform and the rehabilitation of offenders.
Born in 1942 Jonathan Aitken graduated in Law from Oxford University and served for 23 years as a Member of Parliament. He was a Defence Minister and Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He is the author of 12 books including award winning biographies of Richard Nixon and John Newton. He has written and lectured extensively on prison and offender rehabilitation issues. In 2009 he chaired and authored an acclaimed UK report, commissioned by the Centre for Social Justice - Locked Up Potential: A strategy for reforming prisons and rehabilitating prisoners.
Jonathan Aitken serves as a Director of a number of charitable organisations, including Prison Fellowship International, Caring For Ex Offenders, the McDonald Agape Foundation, the Saïd Foundation and The Trinity Forum.
Jonathan Aitken is also well known as a journalist, broadcaster and public speaker. He is a columnist for the American Spectator and writes for a wide range of publications.
Following the talk light refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet Jonathan.
