Highgate road Chapel Proclaiming Jesus Christ as Lord!
What we believe
The gospel
The good news of Jesus Christ is found in the Bible, which we believe to be the inspired and trustworthy Word from God our Creator.
First of all the Bible tells us how we got here, what our purpose is, and why life is the way that it is today. The Bible tells us that humans were made by a personal Creator God for relationship with Him and one another. In the beginning the world that God made was good; there was nothing to cause sadness, uncertainty or fear. This condition did not last for very long, however, as the first representative of the human race made the foolish decision to take humanity out of life-giving union with God. We have all been suffering the consequences ever since as we are each born into a humanity that is out of right relationship with God and under the sentence of death. It is humanity’s independence from God that is the reason for all the problems in the world.
But the Bible not only explains what has gone wrong with the world, it tells us that God will act to put things right again. In fact, God has already acted in history some 2000 years ago in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus was crucified at the hands of the Romans, but three days later God raised him from the dead. After appearing to His disciples many times, Jesus ascended into heaven where He is now seated at God’s right hand as God’s appointed King.
The good news of Christianity is that Jesus’ death on the cross was actually part of God’s plan - He died for our sins that have resulted from living in independence from God, so that through the death of Jesus we can now be brought back into life-giving union with God. God is determined to punish all human sin and wrongdoing, but amazingly God came in the person of His Son Jesus to take the punishment that we deserve. God is now seeking reconciliation with the world and offers free and full forgiveness to all who will turn to Him and put their trust in Jesus Christ.
And it gets even better. The Resurrection of Jesus was only the beginning of God’s action to solve all the problems in the world. Jesus will one day return to earth again; His Kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven. He will judge the world and make all things new. All who have trusted Him will be raised from the dead to eternal life in His Kingdom in bodies that can never die again- the resurrection of Jesus in history is the proof of all this.
We know that this all might sound too good to be true so we invite you to explore with us the claims of Christianity and the credibility of the Bible for yourself. So much rests on getting this right.
Before He ascended up into heaven, the risen Lord Jesus commissioned His disciples to take the good news about Him to the entire world. We are Christians today because they did; millions of lives have been transformed through hearing and believing the good news about Jesus. We are experiencing the hope and power of this in our own lives and so, understandably, we want to share it with others too!
